My (New) Favorite PMA Software Index

http://pma.flat-screens.de/pma.htm

I've known about this one for a while (I'm sure many others have as well), but it's never made it on to my site, oddly enough. Oddly or otherwise, it's here now and it's pma.flat-screens.de.

It's a German site, but here's a Googlefied English translation:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpma.flat-screens.de%2Fpma.htm&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

This site has nearly everything needed/wanted and possibly not wanted for the PMA. Bookmark this one, folks, you'll be glad you did!

Happy downloading!

UPDATE:
Thomas (of openPMA) has pointed out 2 important factors:

To both these points, and in agreement with his recommendation, if you find something you would like to install, first research (via orginal package source or with the help of various PMA groups) whether or not it is suitable for use and up-to-date.

Thanks (again) Thomas for your input on this.

Hi,

Thank you for your critics and linking my site.
In the next days i will update some outdated packages.
Furthermore an english translation will follow.

BTW: All packages (except old version of samba) which are declared as "working" are tested on OpenPMA 0.2 - and they are working fine.

Thomas, I've (hopefully) addressed your concerns with the above update. Thanks for your input!

Also some of the packages seem a bit outdated. e.g. it lists qpeGPS as 0.9.2.3 - a version that was released in mid 2005. Current version is 0.9.3 released recently (2007-01-16).

A general rule for all software indices applies:
If you find an interesting package check if there is an updated version at the original site.

I've got ambivalent feelings about this site. Obviously it was put together with either the original firmware or an earlier openPMA in mind. There is quite a lot software in this index that is not suitable for the openPMA version 0.2 we have at the time I write this.

Also other packages seem to be old versions. e.g. qpeGPS was released in version 0.9.3 recently but the site lists a version from mid 2005 for download.

For all such software indices I can only recommend to use common sense and if you find an interesting package then check the original page for more recent versions.

Especially marking "Samba 2.2.12" a "must have" while current openPMA comes with samba-3.0.21c already installed is dangerous. An unsuspecting user that installs the samba package and uninstalls it again will very likely loose/damage also the preinstalled samba.
